This all started in conversation with my cousin, Clay Nettleship. Clay and I were in my office (he being the family Consiglieri) talking about how our generation needs to stay together. Having just ended a seven year stint in Canada, I am perhaps more aware of how disconnected we have become over the years. We talked about being Maxceys and Clay remarked about how he felt he was a Maxcey, too. Of course he is. We all are, regardless of our last names. For that reason this website will have very little boundaries. After a great conversation with another cousin, Nathan Maxcey, which lasted long and ended a seven year silence, I was determined to so something to help bring us together. After struggling with the copying and digitizing of old film my Grandmother Johnnie Maxcey gave me for safe keeping, I thought of how easier it would be to distribute through a website. I approached my Uncle Jim with the idea for creating www.theMaxceys.com. He immediately agreed to finance the project.
Here are "the rules," such as there are any, but I would say they are more like guidelines than actual rules. This website is financed by Jim P. Maxcey, for the benefit of the family. It will not be for any type of social networking as those tools are already available. Jeff Maxcey will be the moderator and site editor and all requests for media or blog posts will be made through him at jeff.maxcey@gmail.com. Nothing divisive to the family will be on the site, but it is to document our family history. Stories that enrich our past will always be welcome, but embarrassing tales are better left to other outlets. There is no 'approval process' just ask Jeff what you want to do.
